Using Print Size to get an accurate preview in Photoshop

Apr 3, 07:22 AM , , tenderfoot

When you use View > Print Size to preview an image in Photoshop, you may have noticed the dimensions don’t usually match the Document Size.

To make the two conform, you need to set the Screen Resolution in Units & Rulers preferences so that it matches the actual resolution of your monitor. Here’s a rough and ready method for matching the two:

1. Divide the monitor resolution by the visible length of your screen. For example, if monitor resolution is set to 1600 × 1200 and the screen measures 16 inches, the screen resolution will be 100 ppi

2. Open Units & Rulers preferences and input 100 in the Screen Resolution box and OK the dialog

3. Choose View > Print Size

Now, the view should match the Document Size set in Image Size or seen in the document status bar when you select Document Dimensions from the pop-up menu.
